OCCUPANCY FORMULAS

This page is intended to provide a step-by-step guide for calculating the current allowable occupancy for businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.

STEPS TO FOLLOW

Step One:

Calculate your building's square footage. (If you don’t know your square footage, you can find it using the Map link below the videos.)

Step Two:

Determine your total occupancy limit using the formula below that best applies to your business type. 

Note: For the purposes of the Odessa Safe Guidelines, you may use the following occupancy recommendations. These are for COVID19 Response purposes only, do not override existing Building or Fire Codes, and are only in effect during the period of the declared COVID-19 Disaster.

In-Store Retail Services: Gross Square Footage of Sales Floor / 60 = Total Occupancy
                                                   Total Occupancy x 0.25 = CURRENT ALLOWABLE OCCUPANCY

Enclosed Shopping Malls: Gross Square Footage of Sales Floor / 60 = Total Occupancy
                                                      Total Occupancy x 0.25 = CURRENT ALLOWABLE OCCUPANCY

Large Store or "Big Box" Retail: 30,000 to 45,000 square feet: 200 people maximum
                                                                 45,000 to 60,000 square feet: 250 people maximum
                                                                Over 60,000 square feet: 300 people maximum

Restaurants: Total Number of Seating in Dining Area x 0.25 = CURRENT ALLOWABLE OCCUPANCY

Non-Essential Medical: Gross Square Footage / 100 = Total Occupancy
                                                 Total Occupancy x 0.25 = CURRENT ALLOWABLE OCCUPANCY

Event Centers: Contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 432-257-0522

Movie Theaters: Total Number of Seats per Theater x 0.25 = CURRENT ALLOWABLE OCCUPANCY

Museums and Libraries: Gross Square Footage / 30 = Total Occupancy
                                                   Total Occupancy x 0.25 = CURRENT ALLOWABLE OCCUPANCY

 

Per Executive Order GA-18, the following “Reopened Services” must operate at no more than 25 percent of the total listed occupancy (excluding employees):

  • In-store Retail Services
  • Dine-in Restaurants
  • Movie Theaters
  • Shopping Malls
  • Museums
  • Libraries
