Man Arrested after Leaving Scene of Crash & Evading Odessa Police in Vehicle
Odessa Police arrested Dominique Marqui Blankenship, date of birth 08/10/1992, on 2-2-19 at approximately 0020 hours for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon “3rd Degree Felony”, Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle “3rd Degree Felony”, and Evading Arrest and Detention with a Prior Conviction “State Jail Felony”.
While an OPD officer was working off-duty security in the 2100 block of East 8th Street, they heard a loud crash inside of the parking lot. Officers then observed the driver of a red Dodge Charger attempt to leave the scene without meeting necessary legal requirements. Officers then activated their emergency lights and siren.
The driver then stopped and opened his door before attempting to evade officers on foot. Officers detained the hit and run suspect, identified as Blankenship. Officers found Blankenship to be in possession of marijuana and a loaded handgun. Investigation revealed that Blankenship was a convicted felon.
Further investigation revealed that Blankenship had a prior conviction for evading. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Blankenship was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. There were no reports of any injuries.
