June is National Internet Safety Month
June is National Internet Safety Month and the Odessa Police Department is committed to helping parents and guardians with protecting their families from online predators. Below are two apps that consist of several safety features to help protect your online devices.
The Texas Center for the Missing offers the “Safety Savvy” mobile app (Currently Unavailable on iPhone) and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children offers the “Safety Central” mobile app, which is available on both Apple & Android devices.
Safety Savvy’s key features include safety checklists such as:
1) School Safety
2) Senior Safety
3) Preventing Abduction
4) Digital Safety
5) Travel Safety
6) Being Prepared
7) Preventing Child Abuse
Safety Central’s key features include:
1) Digital Child ID Kit – This feature allows users to save potentially lifesaving information about their children, including photos and digital fingerprint images.
2) Missing Children Search – This feature allows users to view posters of children missing in their area and make a report to NCMEC if they have any information.
3) NCMEC Updates – These updates allow users to stay connected with news, trends and safety tips from NCMEC.
4) Safety Tips - Teaches children ages 5-17 about online safety and how to protect themselves and their friends online.
