Expired Registration Leads to Arrest of Fugitive Wanted for Sexual Assault

Odessa Police arrested Corey Chance Salter, date of birth 08/30/1998, on 2-6-18 at approximately 1420 hours for Sexual Assault (Warrant) “2nd Degree Felony” and Evading Arrest “Class A Misdemeanor”. Officers observed a gold Oldsmobile traveling in the 4100 block of Tanglewood with an expired registration.

A traffic stop was conducted and the back right passenger exited the vehicle and fled southeast through the Regency Square Apartment complex. Another OPD officer located the passenger, later identified as Salter, hiding in an alley next to Lakeside. Salter continued to evade officers but was eventually caught and placed into custody.

Investigation revealed that Salter had a second degree felony warrant out of Tarrant County for sexual assault. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Salter was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

Convicted Felon Arrested after Throwing Gun out of Vehicle during Traffic Stop

Odessa Police arrested John George, date of birth 02/04/1988, on 2-7-18 at approximately 1242 hours for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon “3rd Degree Felony” and Tampering with Physical Evidence “3rd Degree Felony”. While patrolling the 3700 block of Andrews Highway, officers observed a beige 2007 Cadillac exiting from a private drive.

The listed vehicle failed to yield the right of way while turning southbound and nearly caused a collision. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the listed vehicle and observed a black gun being thrown out of the passenger window. The driver of the listed vehicle, identified as George, was immediately detained.

Officers retrieved the gun off the ground, which was a black .357 Magnum Rossi by Taurus. Investigation revealed that George had a felony conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, George was charged and arrested accordingly.

OPD Detectives Charge Man in Connection to Theft of Property Investigation

Odessa Police arrested David Mack Smith, date of birth 10/18/1990, on 2-6-18 for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon “3rd Degree Felony”, Theft “State Jail Felony”, and Evading “Class A Misdemeanor”. Back on 2-3-18, officers responded to 1501 North JBS Parkway (Jack Jordan’s BBQ) in reference to a theft.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainant, who advised that unknown subjects burglarized a trailer and stole a Honda generator. Through the course of the investigation one of the suspects was identified as Smith. On 2-6-18, OPD detectives located Smith in the 1400 block of Pagewood. Smith was in possession of the stolen generator.

When detectives made contact with Smith, he immediately fled the scene on foot but was caught and placed into custody. Smith was found to be in possession of numerous firearms. Investigation revealed that Smith was a convicted felon and that he had a probation warrant for burglary of a building. Smith was charged and arrested accordingly.

Odessa Police Charge Man in Connection to Assault / Narcotics Investigation

Odessa Police charged Tyrell Corley, date of birth 03/09/1983, on 2-7-18 with Possession of Methamphetamine “2nd Degree Felony”, Injury to a Child “3rd Degree Felony”, Assault by Strangulation “3rd Degree Felony”, and Possession of Marijuana “Class B Misdemeanor”. On 2-5-18, Odessa Police responded to 1000 East Monahans (Arbor Oaks Apartments) in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 19-year-old complainant and her 8-month-old son. Investigation revealed that after the complainant got into an argument with her husband, identified as Corley, Corley pepper sprayed her and the baby. Corley followed his wife into the bathroom and began to choke her. The complainant could not breathe and blacked out while holding her baby. Corley left the scene before police arrived.

The complainant’s face was red and she had to squint her eyes to see. Officers observed bodily injury on the complainant’s neck and the baby’s face was red and irritated with dilated eyes. Officers discovered approximately 5.9 grams of methamphetamine, 7.5 grams of marijuana and narcotic pipes. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, OPD obtained a warrant for Corley, who was charged accordingly.
