Corporal Justin Caid Named 2017 OPD Detective of the Year
Corporal Justin Caid has been selected as the Odessa Police Department Detective of the Year for 2017. Detective Caid was born and raised in Michigan and began his career with the Odessa Police Department in 2012. After successfully completing the police academy, he was assigned to Patrol Services Bureau “A” Shift for approximately 2.5 years and during this time, he joined the Odessa Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics and the OPD Honor Guard.
In 2015, Detective Caid transferred to the Special Operations Bureau where he was assigned to the Crimes Against Property (Burglary) Unit and promoted to the rank of Corporal. While assigned to the Burglary Unit, he was selected to represent OPD as a task force officer with the United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Detective Caid proved to be a hard worker and excelled in all positions that he was assigned to.
In 2016, Detective Caid transferred to the Crimes Against Persons Robbery/Homicide Unit. During his time with the Robbery/Homicide Unit, he has worked several high profile cases involving aggravated assaults, robberies and homicides. Detective Caid is a licensed TCOLE instructor and regularly assists the Odessa Police Academy. During his assignment with the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, he has been involved with over 150 fugitive investigations and apprehensions.
Detective Caid maintains a positive attitude and regularly volunteers for additional assignments. Detective Caid was also selected as a finalist for the 2016 City of Odessa Employee of the Year.
