OPD Captain John Sikes will soon graduate from the prestigious FBI National Academy. We told you yesterday about the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang traveling to Quantico, Virginia to feed law enforcement officials from around the U.S. and even other countries as part of “Texas Night.”
"It has been a pleasure and an honor to represent the Odessa Police Department at the FBI National Academy. I'm convinced that Class 281 was truly representative of the best and the brightest the world has to offer. Thank you to the citizens of Odessa and Chief Gerke for the opportunity. I can not wait to be back with my family and my OPD family. To the Chuck Wagon Gang: thank you for sharing Odessa with the world. It made me feel at home," said Captain Sikes.
The FBI National Academy is a 10-week program, which provides some top-notch training. It provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science. The academy serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.
We are so proud of Captain Sikes and his hard work and dedication! In recent times, we’ve had a handful of others from OPD attend the prestigious academy. They include Deputy Chief Robert Doporto, Deputy Chief Matt Davidson, and Captain Jerry Harvell. We also have a plaque in the front lobby of OPD that lists other officers who have attended over the years as well.
The Odessa Police Department feels it’s important to invest in its officers.
