Posted on: October 1, 2021[ARCHIVED] Sgt. Yuri Herrera - Hispanic Heritage Month
This month, Sgt. Herrera is wearing her pink badge to highlight “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and to honor her mother and sister who are breast cancer survivors.
Sgt. Herrera was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and raised in Odessa, TX. She is proud of her Mexican traditions. She enjoys the celebrations and loves the authentic food. Her favorite dish are homemade green chicken enchiladas.
Her knowledge of the Hispanic/Latino culture and fluency in Spanish makes her an asset to our department. She is able to connect and understand the dynamics and diversity in our community.
Sgt. Herrera served 10 yrs in the US Navy and has been with OPD for 7 years.
Sgt. Herrera serves the community in many capacities. She is a Patrol Sergeant, Polygraph Examiner, Crisis Negotiator, and Academy instructor.
Sgt. Herrera’s drive is her son and her calling to protect and serve.
