The Odessa Police Academy is underway and we are proud to have ten Recruits.
Many police stations across the country DO NOT have their own academy. It's one of the many things that makes OPD unique. In fact, we've had our police academy since 2010. It lasts 29 weeks.
The Odessa Police Academy requires Recruits to meet the highest standards expected of Texas Peace Officers. Physical fitness will be an essential component of training, as will defensive tactics and firearms training.
After graduation, the Operations Bureau will assign Recruits to patrol shift assignments to begin the Field Training Program.
