The week of May 9-15, 2021, has been designated as National Police Memorial Week. This week is set aside to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement that have been killed in the line of duty. On Thursday, May 13th, the Odessa Police Department will hold a memorial service to honor 9 local officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. OPD will also honor 85 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty the past year in Texas. The public is encouraged to replace their porch lights with blue bulbs beginning Sunday, May 9th through Saturday, May 15th to honor all police officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
