Council Member Denise Swanner wanted more than anything to be a mom.
“I was so focused on having a baby and nothing else,” said Denise.
Denise tried in vitro (IFV) six times. Each time it didn’t work, the pain continued to build, and it was a difficult time in her life.
“A lot of tears were shed,” said Denise.
Finally, they decided to try adopting. In vitro had drained their finances, so some friends went above and beyond for them; they covered the adoption financial expenses.
“Our friends who gave us the money came over one night and said if you are a true friend, you take on your brother's burdens,” said Denise.
Denise recalls her excitement about adopting her now 28-year-old daughter Micalee.
“Don’t give up hope; God ultimately knows your path. Adoption is a beautiful thing,” said Denise.
“God only gives the strongest soldiers the toughest battles,” said Micalee.
Denise has been open with her daughter from day one. She and her daughter are in contact with Micalee’s birth mom. Micalee now has a son, Denise’s grandson 9-year-old Cameren. Cameren calls Denise, “Mammy and Council Mom!”
“I love her and am so proud of her,” said Cameren. “She’s funny and takes me everywhere!”
Their deep bonds radiate, and you can tell these relationships are truly filled with love!
