As an extension of the Odessa Crimestoppers, Detective Carlos Trevizo was asked to join the team as a Spanish-speaking officer in 1986. He was one of five Hispanic officers at the Odessa Police Department at the time. He was skeptical at first but loved every bit of what he did. He also brought Spanish-based media into the mix, which was new to the department.
When asked if he remembered a case without skipping a beat, he mentioned a homicide of an elderly male that he had worked. While he was investigating that case, a tip came in where they described a person that was watching the investigation. He was a suspect. Off of one Crimestoppers tip, they were able to make three arrests.
With the help of the community, Carlos was able to make a difference. He loved that the community trusted and accepted him as a part of Crimestoppers.
The Odessa Crimestoppers has closed 9,626 cases, received 36,806 tips, and recovered $11,796,509 in stolen goods and seized narcotics since they started in 1983.
