Every moment counts! A car accident made Melody Herrara realize that, pushing her to use her artistic outlet again! She, her husband, and their kids were in a car wreck last year.
"The last thing I remember from the crash is my husband telling me to look out."
The
driver of the other car was texting and hit Melody's side of the vehicle. The Odessa woman was left with a broken hip and pelvis. As a result, she was bedridden for a month. Through the terrifying ordeal, she realized she needed to start putting time aside for herself and enjoyed doing that creatively. After the accident, she painted some murals around town; you can see them at La Michocana and Neon Tiger. Melody had one of her digital designs picked to be placed on one of the electrical boxes downtown.(More pics are on our FB page)
She owns "Eye Eat Clay," a realistic food jewelry company! Melody recently started selling them. The first two events she participated in were MuralFest and Firecracker Fandango. Her love of art started at a young age.
"I've always been an artist, and clay was a new medium for me to play around with."
Melody is also a mom to five little ones that range in age from three to eleven years old. They are her inspiration! Many of the realistic-looking food earrings that she makes are snacks that her kiddos LOVE to eat. Each pair of earrings takes Melody a few hours to complete.
"There's something about creating with your hands that makes you appreciate the work a little more."
