Born in the Philippines and raised on her family farm, Susie Hines always wanted to come to America. Her road to getting here was long and hard. But the single mother of two stayed focused on working to create a better life for herself and her family.
She is in a picture with her husband, James Hines. They have been married for 19 years and opened “Susie’s Asian Grocery/Deli” 17 years ago. She wanted to introduce a different culture to Odessa. Not only does she run the store, but she also cooks and bakes. Susie says that’s her true passion.
We also asked her what it’s like to own a small business. She said, “Every day is a struggle, and you learn something!”
You will find Asian foods, such as suman, puto, leche plan, and much more.
Here’s something else interesting about Susie, she also speaks some Arabic. She and James are both so personable and put you at ease instantly.
