Originally from a small town in New Mexico, Corporal Taylor Miley first came to Odessa on a softball scholarship. She played first base at Odessa College and ended up studying Criminal Justice. Her father served in the Marines and she decided she wanted a career where she felt that “team camaraderie.”
Corporal Miley has now been with the Odessa Police Department for 10 years. She’s worked in some fascinating positions including on the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force. It was a joint task force that included Sheriff’s Deputies and DPS. They were tasked with finding fugitives who had violent felony warrants. She says it’s an action-packed job.
She also serves on the Crisis Negotiation Team. They are trained to negotiate in some intense situations. For example, suicidal threats and people who barricade themselves in standoffs.
We asked her what was most fulfilling about her job. “When you get to help someone in a bad situation for a long time and help them turn their life around such as with family violence. When you really feel like you’re making a difference.”
Corporal Miley also patrols our streets and enjoys that because everyday is different. Her goal is to become a detective and continue to promote through the ranks! Corporal Miley, we know the skies the limit for you!
