At the Odessa Police Department, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to approach law enforcement and that includes the way we communicate with our community. We are here to serve YOU the citizens.
Chief Michael Gerke and PR Manager Monica Quintero are going to be working to show you a "Different Perspective." Sometimes we can't comment on specific cases due to possibly hindering an investigation or because we want to protect the victims. There are so many reasons why we word things the way we do. So, we're going to address issues in these postings in general terms.
Many times we are asked about cases that we are only assisting in. What that means, is we're helping an agency whether it's a Sheriff's Office, FBI, DPS, etc... A perk to West Texas is that the law enforcement agencies have formed strong relationships and work very well together.
The lead agency on the case has ALL of the information on that case. You've heard the saying, "there are too many hands in the cookie jar." That can ruin it. Whether it be information that shouldn't have been released because it does hinder the investigation or lines of communication being crossed. Make sense?
Our goal is to always be transparent and give you the latest news from OPD as quickly as possible.
