Mayor Melton is focused on a number of priorities, including:
- Economic development continues to be enhanced to improve the City’s image. Efforts to bring in new businesses to create new jobs will benefit the community. The Capital Improvement Program includes the design of the business
interstate & highway interchange project and street reconstruction in major thoroughfares.
- Economic enhancement with projects of the on-going work release community service clean-ups and city-wide neighborhood “sweeps” litter campaigns contributes to the improvement of the quality of life.
- The City Council passed the Parks Master Plan, which reviews the goals and priorities and provides assessment of Odessa’s park recreation open space and urban landscape system. With citizens input, the plan gives recommendations
for improving parks in the City.
- The two aquatic facilities, Woodson and Sherwood Parks, are two examples of enhancing our parks system. The facilities provide a fun filled atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy.
- To continue to bring in new businesses through the use of economic development tax dollars. Through the work of the Odessa Development Corporation, the board attracts new businesses such as Family Dollar and Telvista, which
has created new jobs. In addition, the dollars help local businesses with expansions in order to meet the needs of our local businesses.
