Mayor Larry Melton was appointed to the position of Mayor in July of 2001 and was elected to the office in May 2002. Mayor Melton was re-elected in May 2004 to serve a four year term as Odessa's Mayor. He previously served in the City Council District Three Seat from May 1999 to July 2001 and was re-elected to the position in May of 2001. Melton vacated the District Three Seat upon his appointment as Mayor. As Mayor, he is the City's Chief Executive Officer, in charge of directing the activities of the City's more than 1,000 employees and managing a $118 million annual budget.
