Mayor Melton attended Odessa High School. After high school, the Mayor attended Texas Tech University. He received a Bachelor of Science – Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.
In May 1999, Mayor Melton was first elected to the City Council and served with distinction in the Council District 3 position until his appointment as Mayor in July 2001.
In May 2002, Mayor Melton was elected to the position of Mayor and is currently serving a second term, with a re-election in May 2004. During his position in the City Council, Mayor Melton serves in the following:

Under his leadership, the City of Odessa has diversified economic development by bringing in Family Dollar and Telvista resulting in the creation of many new jobs. Mayor Melton’s leadership has
enhanced the quality of life for our citizens and community. He has a solid record of accomplishment.
Currently, Mayor Melton is the CEO of Johnson, Miller & Company, a regional accounting firm with offices in Odessa, Midland, and Hobbs, NM. He is responsible for all administrative and human resources
areas of the firm and budget preparation and monitoring. His expertise and background in financial banking has a been a tremendous asset to the City of Odessa.
