The Information Services Department provides computer, radio and telephone communications support for all City departments. The department is staffed with twelve people. Our network support team oversees the City’s wide area network implemented on high speed fiber optic and wireless infrastructure supporting 500+ personal computers. The application support team is responsible for an integrated suite of business applications for administrative/financial departments. The Communications Division provides technical support for a Motorola trunked radio system, telephones and voice mail. IS maintains an internal Web page for employee use and an external Web page for communicating with the public. The Utility and Public Safety Departments maintain computer systems for their own specific needs.A primary issue facing Information Services is maintaining the appropriate staff level and staff skills necessary to support the growing needs of City departments. City departments are beginning to provide public services using the Internet and mobile technology. The IS Department is expanding computer and communications capabilities in support of this evolving need. City departments are becoming more computerized and dependent on technology, and the capability of Information Services must be aligned with the goals of our user departments in order for us to maintain a successful partnership.
