Operates and maintains the wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift under the strict supervision and direction of a licensed operator to ensure the effective processing of wastewater, keeping the plant within state and federal permit specifications to avoid any penalties. Requirements: |
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with completion of one or more courses in biology or chemistry at the high school level or college level. Experience: Experience in a wastewater plant preferred. Other plant and related experience will be considered.
Licensing: Possess valid Texas Driver License. Possess class "D" wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality or ability to acquire within time frame prescribed by department license policy. License must be upgraded within departmental license policy. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read, write and calculate; understand and follow oral and written instructions; and maintain records. Ability to perform tasks requiring heavy physical effort in a safe manner. Possess working knowledge of pumps. Some knowledge of pump and plant operations, valves and flows. Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Six (6) months work experience in water or wastewater operations, maintenance, construction or repair, plumbing, pipe fitting, or other related field required, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Licenses and Certificates: Must possess valid Class C Texas Drivers License and must upgrade to Class A CDL license within one (1) year of employment. Possession of license in water, wastewater, distribution and/or collection issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality or obtain within sixteen (16) months of becoming eligible is preferred.
Safety Requirement: Position requires that City-furnished safety boots be worn on the job. Division safety equipment is furnished and must be used as prescribed by policies.
Other Requirements: Must be able to work after hours, weekends, and holidays for scheduled and unscheduled work. Must be able to respond to after hour emergencies as needed. Must be able to work rotating shift and rotating call duty as required. Must have telephone.
