Safety Zones
***********************************************

February 1st to February 7th 2009

One of the goals of the Odessa Police Department is a motoring public which is safe, courteous and accident free. In pursuit of this goal, the Department will begin to periodically designate “safe zones” throughout the city. These “safe zones” are areas in which traffic enforcement will be increased in an effort to gain traffic law compliance. “Safe zones” will be announced the week prior to enforcement action being taken. Expect to see officers of the Odessa Police Department working these areas singly or in groups in an effort to gain compliance through education and enforcement.

Officers working “safe zones” will be enforcing all traffic laws but will pay close attention to red light, stop sign, speeding and other moving violations.

The “safe zones” we would like our motoring public to be aware of for the next week are the 1000 block N. Dixie, 2000 to 2700 block E. 8th, 1300 to 1800 E. 2nd. The Traffic Units will concentrate on all School Zones, Crosswalks, and School Buses while loading and unloading children.

Please take note of this “safety zone” and remind your family and friends we will be taking enforcement action in this area next week. By working together and obeying the law, perhaps we can reduce traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities by making our streets safer places on which to drive.
