OPD Asking for Public’s Help with Attempted Abduction Investigation

On 9-11-18 at approximately 1815 hours, Odessa Police responded to 826 West Clements (Lowes) in reference to a check welfare. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant, who advised that an unknown male subject had attempted to abduct an 11-year-old male. Investigation revealed that two boys were waiting at the store due to missing the bus at Ector Middle School. While the boys were waiting, an unknown male subject exited the store and began watching them. The male subject walked over to the boys and grabbed the 11-year-old male by the arm and started to walk away with him.

The other boy got in front of the suspect and told him to let the other boy go. The suspect let go of the 11-year-old and was last seen walking westbound on Clements. The two boys immediately ran inside and asked the complainant to call the police. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, in his 50’s, wearing old jeans, a long sleeve shirt with stripes, and sunglasses.
