OPD Traffic Unit Charges Man in Connection to Aggravated Assault / Intoxication Assault Investigation
Odessa Police arrested Michael Reyes, date of birth 11/26/1982, on 2-8-18 at approximately 1400 hours for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon “2nd Degree Felony” and Intoxication Assault “3rd Degree Felony”. Back on 1-23-18 at approximately 0004 hours, Odessa Police responded to 2nd and North County Road West in reference to a crash.
Investigation revealed that a tan 1998 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on North County Road West at a high rate of speed and went into oncoming traffic before striking a concrete barrier and guardrail. The driver of the listed vehicle was identified as Reyes and the front passenger as a 30-year-old male.
The front passenger was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury. Officers could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Reyes. Reconstruction of the crash revealed that Reyes was traveling a minimum of 79 mph in a 40 mph zone, which is considered to be reckless.
Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, the Odessa Police Department Traffic Division obtained two warrants for Reyes, who was eventually charged and arrested accordingly.
