Search Warrant Leads to Arrest of 2 Subjects with Narcotics & Firearms

Odessa Police arrested Ruben Antonio Marquez, date of birth 07/09/1994, on 2-8-18 at approximately 1749 hours for Delivery of Cocaine “Felony 1”, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon “Felony 3”, Evading Arrest “SJF”, Resisting Arrest “Class A Misdemeanor”, and Possession of Marijuana “Class B Misdemeanor”.

Odessa Police also arrested Danisha Carroll, date of birth 06/24/1994, for Delivery of Cocaine “Felony 1” and Possession of Marijuana “Class B Misdemeanor”. Officers responded to the 3100 block of North Hancock in reference to a subject with a gun who was driving erratically and spinning his tires.

The complainant advised officers that when he confronted the suspect about driving erratically, the suspect stated “you wanna fight me” and brandished a black handgun. The complainant immediately left the area and called police. Officers observed a male subject at a residence in the 3100 block of North Hancock, who matched the suspect’s description.

When officers made contact with the suspect, identified as Marquez, they could smell marijuana coming from the residence. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Marquez was detained pending further investigation and Odessa Police obtained a search warrant for suspect’s residence.

Officers made contact with a female subject, identified as Carroll, inside of the residence with four children all under the age of 9. Officers searched the residence and discovered a black Kahr CM 9mm semiautomatic pistol, a Diamond AR-15 rifle, approximately 97.7 grams of cocaine, multiple scales and multiple bags of marijuana.    

While officers were escorting Marquez to the back of the OPD patrol unit, Marquez pulled his arms free of the officer’s grip and immediately evaded officers southbound on Hancock. When an OPD officer caught up to Marquez, he continued to resist arrest. Investigation revealed that Marquez was a convicted felon and had a prior conviction for evading.

Investigation revealed that Carroll had prior knowledge of both the illegal narcotics and firearms. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, both subjects were charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC. CPS was notified of the incident and the children were released to a family member.
