Odessa Police Charge Man in Connection to Aggravated Assault Investigation
Odessa Police charged Jonathan C. Chavez, date of birth 01/28/1998, on 2-1-18 with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Family Violence) “1st Degree Felony”. Back on 12-6-17 at approximately 1216 hours, Odessa Police responded to 3727 Andrews Highway (High Plains Apartments) in reference to a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 20-year-old female, who advised that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, identified as Chavez. Investigation revealed that after both subjects got into an argument, Chavez punched his girlfriend several times with a closed fist before grabbing her by the neck.
Chavez then placed a knife to his girlfriend’s neck and stated that he would kill her. As the girlfriend was running away from Chavez, he threw a metal multi-tool and struck her in the head with it. Chavez fled the scene before police arrived and the victim was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury.
The victim sustained injuries on her neck, chin, lips and forehead. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, OPD detectives obtained a warrant for Chavez, who was eventually charged accordingly.
