Man Arrested after Attempting to Run Over & Evade OPD Officers in Stolen Vehicle
Odessa Police arrested Matthew Head, date of birth 03/01/1987, on 1-25-18 at approximately 0007 hours for Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant “2nd Degree Felony”, Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle “State Jail Felony”, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle “State Jail Felony”, and for two misdemeanor warrants.
On 1-24-18 at approximately 2056 hours, while patrolling the area of 42nd and Grandview, officers were flagged down in reference to a theft at Walgreens. Officers confronted the theft suspect, who was occupying a green 1994 Ford Ranger in the Walgreens parking lot. While officers attempted to detain the suspect, later identified as Head, he began to leave in the listed vehicle.
Head placed the vehicle into reverse and nearly struck an OPD officer with the driver’s door and almost ran over the officer’s foot. The OPD officer had to move out of the way to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Head then fled the scene in the listed vehicle. Several OPD officers activated their emergency lights and sirens in attempt to stop Head.
Head refused to stop and continued evading until crashing in the south alley of the 1600 block of Boise Drive. Head then exited the listed vehicle and fled on foot before being caught by officers in the 5400 block of Devonian. There were no reports of any injuries. Investigation revealed that the listed vehicle had previously been reported stolen.
There were no reports of any injuries. Head admitted to detectives that he took the listed vehicle on 1-23-18 without the owner’s consent. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Head was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
