Odessa Police Make Arrest in Connection to Robbery & Recover Stolen Property
Odessa Police arrested Juan Pablo Ortega, date of birth 10/24/1995, on 1-22-18 at approximately 2034 hours for Robbery “2nd Degree Felony” and Tampering with Physical Evidence “3rd Degree Felony”. Odessa Police also arrested Felisa Ann Ochoa, date of birth 05/28/1979, for Possession of Methamphetamine “State Jail Felony” and Possession of a Dangerous Drug “Class A Misdemeanor”.
Officers responded to Paradise Avenue in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 16-year-old complainant, who advised that an unknown male subject walked up to her and grabbed her iPhone 6 before dragging her by her backpack. The complainant feared for her life because she thought that the male subject was attempting to kidnap her due to him dragging her by the backpack.
The male subject then demanded money and the complainant was able to slip out of the shoulder straps of the backpack. The male subject fled eastbound with the complainant’s backpack, which contained her wallet and school notebooks. Officers were able to trace the cell phone to a residence located in the 300 block of Ellis. Officers went to the 300 block of Ellis and made contact with a male subject, identified as Ortega.
Ortega was positively identified as the same suspect who had committed the robbery on Paradise Avenue. Officers also made contact with a female subject, identified as Ochoa, who was found to be in possession of the complainant’s wallet. Ochoa was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and 57 Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride pills. Officers also located the stolen cell phone and backpack inside of the residence.
Officers observed a grill on the patio with several burnt notebooks and school papers still smoldering. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Ortega and Ochoa were charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
