Odessa Police Make Arrest in Connection to Arson Investigation

DATE/TIME REPORTED: January 18, 2018 at approximately 0030 hours
LOCATION: 200 Block of South Hancock
Odessa Police have made an arrest in connection to an arson that occurred early this morning in South Odessa. Raymond Fresquez, date of birth 03/04/1970, has been charged with Arson “2nd Degree Felony”, Driving While License Invalid with Prior Convictions “Class B Misdemeanor”, and for four outstanding warrants.
While an OPD officer was in the 300 block of East 1st Street, they observed a maroon Ford Ranger traveling westbound on 1st Street before parking in the 300 block of East 1st Street. The driver exited the vehicle and walked southbound to the 200 block of South Hancock.
Approximately five minutes later, officers observed the same male subject walk back to his vehicle and re-enter the listed vehicle. Officers then observed bright yellow flames emitting from a residence located in the 200 block of South Hancock. The male subject then fled the scene westbound in the listed vehicle.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on the listed vehicle in the 200 block of North Lee and the driver was identified as Fresquez. Officers could smell a strong odor of gasoline coming from the listed vehicle. A red gasoline can was observed in plain view in the bed of the truck.
Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the 200 block of South Hancock and extinguished a fully engulfed fire from a residence. There were no reports of any injuries. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Fresquez was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC.
The investigation continues.
