Odessa Police Make 3 Arrests in Connection to Package Theft Investigation

DATE/TIME REPORTED: December 1, 2017 at approximately 1451 hours
LOCATION: 3600 Block of Bonham
SUMMARY:

Odessa Police have made three arrests in connection to a package theft investigation in Northeast Odessa. A 16-year-old male, a 14-year-old male and 17-year-old Kaleb Murray have all been charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity “Class A Misdemeanor”.

On December 1, 2017 at approximately 1451 hours, Odessa Police responded to the 3600 block of Bonham in reference to a theft of packages. Dispatch advised that subjects were driving around in a gold SUV and taking packages from front porches. Officers searched the area and located a gold Ford Explorer in the North alley of the 1600 block of East Everglade. The driver of the listed vehicle was identified as Murray and the two passengers were identified as a 16-year-old male and 14-year-old male.

Officers observed several  boxes inside of the listed vehicle. A show-up was conducted and one of the victims positively identified the 16-year-old male as the same subject who was observed stealing the packages, valued at several hundred dollars. Murray then admitted to officers that he was the driver and that the 16-year-old male and 14-year-old male were the ones getting out of the vehicle and grabbing packages from different residences. The 14-year-old male later admitted to also taking packages.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, all three subjects were charged and arrested accordingly. Murray was transported to the ECLEC and the two juveniles were transported to the Ector County Youth Center. Odessa Police returned several of the stolen items to the victims.

The investigation is ongoing. The Odessa Police Department would like to encourage the public to please report all suspicious activity and have packages delivered to alternative locations if possible.
