Odessa Police Warning Public about Scam
Odessa Police have made an arrest involving a scam. Trineka Freeman, date of birth 02/18/1981, has been charged with Theft by Deception “State Jail Felony”.
On November 6, 2017, a theft was reported to the Odessa Police Department. The complainant reported that she responded to a social media website “www.offerup.com” that advertises lots for sale.
On October 23, 2017, the complainant met Trineka Freeman in the 600 block of Fitch and paid her $5,200. Freeman assured the complainant that she would get the deed signed.
Investigation revealed that the lots did not belong to Freeman as advertised. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, OPD detectives obtained a warrant for Freeman, who was charged and arrested accordingly.
The Odessa Police Department later became aware of another potential victim involving the same type of scam. If anyone has been a victim of this scam, they are encouraged to contact Detective R. Celaya at 432-335-4937 and reference Case #17-31144.
The investigation is ongoing.
