Odessa Police Charge Man in Connection to Assaulting Elderly Person

Odessa Police have a charged Christopher Shane Chandler, date of birth 01/06/1991, with Injury to an Elderly (Family Violence) “3rd Degree Felony” and Interference with an Emergency Telephone Call “Class A Misdemeanor”.
On August 25, 2017, Odessa Police responded to the 3600 block of Merrill in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 71-year-old female, who advised that she had been assaulted by her grandson, identified as Chandler.
Investigation revealed that Chandler became upset with his grandmother because she would not allow one of his friends to enter the residence. Chandler picked up a decorative lemon and threw it at his grandmother, striking her in the left forearm.
Chandler then grabbed his grandmother by the throat and pinned her down to the couch, restricting her breathing. Chandler then grabbed the phone out of his grandmother’s while she was attempting to call the police.
Chandler threw the phone against the wall, causing it to come apart and rendering it inoperable. Chandler fled the scene before police arrived. Officers observed bodily injury on the grandmother’s left forearm.
Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, OPD detectives obtained warrants for Chandler, who was eventually charged and arrested accordingly.
