Change in Water Disinfection
Return to full list >>
Residents may notice a bleach or chlorine like smell in City water beginning Friday, July 1. The smell is a result of a temporary change in the method used to disinfect the City water supply. Chlorine only will be used to disinfect the water supply, instead of Chloramines (a combination of chlorine and ammonia).
The change in disinfection will last approximately four weeks and is a proactive maintenance activity to assist in maintaining adequate chlorine residuals in the distribution system.
The City has regularly made this change of disinfectant in years past with minimal impact to customers.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has been notified of the change in water treatment and agrees this is the best method to ensure adequate chlorine residuals are maintained.
